Shelforce features in King Charles III coronation and 75th birthday commemorative album

Window and door manufacturer Shelforce has been featured in a special 75th birthday commemorative album for King Charles III.

Earlier this year, the Birmingham-based Shelforce was presented with The King’s Award for Enterprise in Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility).

The business is now set to feature in the new book King Charles III: The Leadership and Vision of a Modern Monarch, which will be launched at Claridge’s in central London on His Majesty’s

75th birthday – 14 November.

Produced in the year of His Majesty’s coronation, the beautifully presented, fully illustrated hardback book has been written by The New York Times bestselling author Robert Jobson. Charting Charles’s life from his celebrated birth and early years, through his role and responsibilities as the Prince of Wales, to his accession and coronation as king, the book reflects on the ideas and issues that he has championed along the way and considers how The King intends to shape a relevant and future-facing monarchy for the world of today and tomorrow.

It also highlights examples of achievement and progress across social, cultural, technological and commercial spheres.

In addition to the words of royal author Robert Jobson, the book features the photography of legendary royal photographer Arthur Edwards MBE, who has been capturing images of the Royal Family for more than 45 years.

Howard Trotter, Shelforce’s Business Manager, met King Charles III at a royal reception hosted by His Majesty The King at Buckingham Palace for all Kings Award for Enterprise winners, and he attended the 75th commemorative 75th album lunch.

“It is an unbelievable honour for Shelforce to feature in such an important and historic book in the

year of the King’s coronation. We are delighted to represent not only our local community in Erdington and the West Midlands, but also the industry,” said Howard.

Royal recognition

With Shelforce employing 30 people, of which 75% have a disability, His Majesty The King approved the Prime Minister’s recommendation that the business be recognised for providing a place where people with mental or physical disabilities can thrive in employment.

“We have had some wonderful exposure since we were recognised with the most prestigious award in UK business,” said Howard. “Firstly, it has been brilliant for the team to see the recognition for the job they do, and for the processes we have in place, and it has given them huge confidence moving forward. Secondly, it has opened doors for us and allowed us to demonstrate what we are capable of.

“Earlier this year we also won Business of the Year at the Great British Business Awards and the ‘Most Significant Service Improvement’ award at the first ever Housing Awards, launched by City Housing to acknowledge the hard work, successes and achievements of businesses involved in social housing in Birmingham. It’s fantastic to get recognition for both our diverse and inclusive ethos and our manufacturing and service.”

Looking to the future

Shelforce provides high-quality windows and doors, including fire doors, to local authority building projects and housing associations.

Demand for its Fireshel 30-minure fire, smoke and security resistant door has seen investment go into the business to provide Shelforce with the ability to manufacture 250-300 fire doors a week, new software and phone systems to improve processing and efficiency and new signage and a refurb of the main office. Shelforce is also set to increase its full-time staff by 12.

Shelforce also continue to help Local Authorities and housing associations to specify the right products, including fire doors and energy efficient windows and doors, and provide the right information and guidance on what they need to meet the necessary regulations and standards. One of our engineers working on a newly manufactured window frame

Howard added: “In an era of tightened regulations and budgets, our clients face a significant challenge when specifying home improvement products and we simplify that process while offering the best value for money without compromising on quality or safety.”
