The importance of community involvement in our business

How is Shelforce actively involved in the community?

At Shelforce, community involvement isn’t just a value, it’s at the heart of our entire operation. From providing inclusive employment opportunities to developing strong partnerships with local schools and organisations, we actively support local communities through initiatives that promote education, employment, and social cohesion. Our hands-on work experience programmes, commitment to diversity, and focus on sustainability all reflect a business deeply rooted in its social responsibilities.

Shelforce

Shelforce’s community-focused initiatives

Our belief is simple: a business thrives when its community thrives. That’s why community engagement is not just an afterthought, it’s a strategic priority. We aim to build new relationships, foster community cohesion, and contribute meaningfully to the quality of life of the people around us. We’ve embedded community involvement into everything we do. Here are some of the key ways we support local residents and strengthen our community ties:

  1. Education and Youth Development

School Partnerships: We’ve developed a close relationship with Oscott Manor School in Birmingham, offering tailored work experience placements for students with autism.

Apprenticeships: We regularly take on apprentices and have even had local children make windows with us while on work experience placements.

  1. Inclusive Employment

Diverse Workforce: Our recruitment process is designed to break traditional barriers, offering trial days instead of standard applications to assess real-world skills.

Support for Disabled Individuals: We champion workplace inclusivity, offering meaningful employment for people with both physical and mental disabilities.

  1. Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility

Recycling Initiatives: In partnership with Eurocell, we use 100% recycled PVCu where possible and repurpose nearly all of our production waste.

Eco-Friendly Products: All our windows come with an ‘A’ energy rating and are fully recyclable, contributing to a greener local environment.

How does community involvement benefit our business?

Our community engagement efforts produce far-reaching benefits. It enhances brand trust with socially conscious clients; improves staff morale by creating a meaningful and inclusive workplace; builds goodwill in the community; strengthens local partnerships with schools, suppliers, and service providers; and drives innovation through diverse workforce perspectives.

These are good examples of how responsible business practices can foster mutual growth between a company and its community.

Long-term impact on local communities

We provide Birmingham residents and tenants in our communities with the very best windows, doors and fire doors, so are safe and secure and can be proud of their homes. Through every window, door, and fire door we manufacture, we are building not just homes, but connections. These new relationships form the foundation of community cohesion, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to contribute and belong.

We aim to leave a lasting legacy. Our work:

  • Increases employment opportunities for marginalised individuals
  • Boosts skills development in the region
  • Boosts local services through high-quality, accessible products
  • Promotes sustainable living and reduced environmental impact
